REPS Courses

Are you interested in representing your workmates on site? The CFMEU regularly runs health and safety rep and shop steward training for workers who’ve been nominated to represent the union on-the-job.  The first step is to put your hand up; to be a Health and Safety Rep you need to be voted in by your fellow workers on site. If you’re interested in becoming a Shop Steward you need to be nominated by a CFMEU Organiser.

Health and Safety Representatives Refresher

Delivery time: face-to-face 1 day

This WorkSafe-approved course is designed for workers and HSRs who have completed the initial 5-day course and includes updates on any new legislation, regulations and codes of practice, and systems and policies in OH&S. All HSRs are entitled to attend a refresher course, under the OH&S Act 2004, at least once a year after completing the initial course, as long as they hold office.

Health and Safety Representatives

Delivery time: face-to-face 5 days
(one day a week over 5 weeks)

Nominal hours: 35

This WorkSafe-approved course is designed for potential and elected HSRs. All HSRs are entitled to an initial course of training in occupational health and safety under the OH&S Act 2004, at a provider of their choice in consultation with their employer. This course covers a range of areas including:
• the legal framework;
• the role, powers and entitlements of the HSR and other key workplace personnel;
• the role of HSR in risk management;
• the identification and control of hazards;
• consultation and negotiation.

Delegates/Shop Stewards

Delivery time: face-to-face 6 days (one day a week over 6 weeks)

This course is designed for elected shop stewards/delegates. Entry to the course is via nomination by a CFMEU organiser.
