Latest poll shows Turnbull popularity slide

The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union welcomed the latest Essential Poll results, showing Malcolm Turnbull’s popularity on the slide.

In the last poll before Parliament returns to debate the Australian Building and Construction Commission, today’s Essential Poll indicates voters have strongly rejected Malcolm Turnbull’s election pitch based on the ABCC.

CFMEU National Secretary Michael O’Connor said the poll was further evidence voters did not support Malcolm Turnbull's attack on workers in the construction transport and maritime industries.

“This latest poll clearly indicates Malcolm Turnbull’s popularity is on the slide,” Mr O’Connor said.

“Malcolm Turnbull’s refusal to fight for everyday Australians, whether it’s at work, or against the big banks has struck a chord with voters and they are overwhelmingly saying they’ve had enough.

“Malcolm Turnbull’s politically motivated attack on workers’ rights and unions has backfired.”

The Prime Minister’s total approval rating has plummeted 6 per cent from last month to 39 per cent.

It’s also down from a high of 56 per cent in December.

Even Malcolm Turnbull’s own supporters have expressed their dissatisfaction, with his approval rating falling 6 per cent with Liberal/National voters to 69 per cent.

His overall disapproval amongst his own supporters has also climbed 6 per cent to 19 per cent.

“You know things are really bad inside the Liberal Party when Malcolm Turnbull’s own supporters are losing faith in their leader,” Mr O’Connor said.

“Malcolm Turnbull has been distracted looking after his masters in the Liberal Party and his mates in the big banks.

“If he can’t stand up to his own Party and the big end of town, how could Malcolm Turnbull possibly lead Australia through a transitioning economy?”
