Conservative policies since the 1990s have asserted that the Australian economy, employment levels and the Australia people will benefit from continued labour market deregulation. The reality is that increased labour flexibility has resulted in growing inequality, the rise of insecure work and the growth of an Australian working underclass. What is needed is a new consensus.
